Spring Break

I have to admit that I was a bit unsure about spring break this year. Not having met my own expectations of parenting skills in recent weeks, it wasn't a comforting thought to have my two angels home with me all week. It wasn't without any struggles, fights and tears, but overall we had a really good time and enjoyed spending the extra time together.

The Friday before the actual spring break, the kids and I headed to Little Rock. It was Grandmamas birthday and we hadn't seen them in a while, so we spend a couple of days with them. Needless to say, we had a great time, as always. I just really like being there, because (besides the obvious of being with family) we can just walk out the front door and take a stroll. Very close to their house is a street with very interesting shops. Some artsy, some tasty and some just a little crazy. Every time I'm there, a walk down this street is a must. The kids found some walls do walk along and got some hot chocolate, which made it even more fun for them. We went to a kids play of Busytown on Saturday and really enjoyed it as well. Thanks PapPap and Grandmama! Lani sat through the whole thing, which really impressed me. Luke and Lani fell in love with one of the cats. Sidekick, aka Lunker is a very sweet, fun loving cat. We believe he enjoyed the kids attention, even though it was a little rough at times. He kept coming back for more. Very sweet! Monday came around and we drove back home.

Tuesday was St. Patricks Day! Silke and her son Liam met us downtown at the park, where the boys chased the poor ducks to no end before we headed to the courthouse to watch the parade. The boys thought it was awesome. Lani didn't like the horn of the fire truck, but just covered her ears and didn't start crying. She has grown up!!! She's a big girl now. Afterward Luke and Liam abused the ducks some more. What can I say.... boys will be boys.

Wednesday was playground day. Thursday we just stayed home and played with Maria, Isabela and Gabriel, our neighbors. Friday we spent hours at Sci-quest. Saturday Jay went with the kids to the playground, so I could clean in peace and we went to Bridge Street in the afternoon. Luke and Lani jumped on the moon bounces, had their face painted, got a balloon and had a good time once again. And to finish off Spring Break we spent 4 hours at the playground on Monday.

I took some pictures, but since my dear husband put the memory card of the camera in the Wii the pictures are on the internal memory and I can't find the cable to download. Therefore pictures will be added at a later point.

There is a reason for the saying: If you don't like the weather in Alabama, just wait a two days and it'll be different. This is true for the most part (fortunately the sun shines much more than just for 2 days in a row). Last Sunday we were playing in the snow and since Friday we've been wearing T-shirts and today even shorts. Now, how crazy is that? Needless to say we've been enjoying the warm weather and have been outside. We've been to the playground twice, have been swinging and jumping in the backyard, playing with chalk and cars on the driveway, riding bikes,.....

Lani had her first dentist appointment this morning. Since Lani used to be so shy, I didn't really expect her to get her teeth checked and cleaned. We watched big bro Luke get his teeth done before it was Lani's turn. She hopped up onto the chair and let the lady do her thing. The kids dentist is great in making kids comfortable, having funny names for all tools and showing and explaining them before using. Once the hygienist was finished, the doctor came over to take a look. He talked to Lani a bit and asked her how she was doing,... She didn't answer. The doctor kept on chatting and suddenly Lani said: I don't like you! I had to control myself to not bust out laughing. It caught me completely off guard. She was very serious about how she said it, yet let him check her teeth. This was a first!!





Our big boy surprised everybody today at Karate. He had to do 70 bunny hops for bad behavior (not at class, but at home!!! I'm not gonna go into detail, I would have to write an entire novel just about that one subject) and he did them all. Jay said Luke could have kept going. The instructor didn't expect that and neither did Daddy, who took him to class. Once he was home, he kept right on going, like he hadn't done anything physical at all. I seriously need to consider getting a treadmill with a cage for my son, maybe then I'll be able to tire him out.

Warm or cold? It changes daily

I'm not sure what the weather is like where you are, but it's been nothing but up and down and simply crazy here. Just this past Thursday, we were running around in light sweaters and it was a comfortable 67 -70 degrees. This is what we woke up to this morning, just 3 days later.

We had a blast. Luke was so excited that he couldn't eat his breakfast fast enough and get dressed fast enough. It was so fun to watch his excitement for and fun with the snow. We haven't had snow in a long time. A few years ago, we had a little bit that actually stayed for a day or two. During our first winter here in Huntsville we had snow for 4 to 5 days. I remember living in the apartment and taking the dogs for walks in the snow. It wasn't much, but hey...the ground was white.

We checked the weather this morning, just to see how long we could expect to see this white blanket. Needless to say, it's already gone....only our little snowman has survived!! I give him a few more hours; maybe even until tomorrow.

And in case anybody wonders, we'll have 70 - 73 degrees next weekend. So, we'll keep going from no jackets, to heavy winter layers, to light jackets and so on and so on. Winter in Alabama....one never knows what's coming!
